General and Fundamental Mechanics（一般力学与力学基础）（doctoral discipline）
The subject is founded with the support of the Institute of Applied Mechanics, and had its master program since 1978, and now it can offer the doctoral program. We have many excellent teachers here, of which 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 National Scholar of Thousand-man Project，4 professors, and 6 associate professors. Most of them have doctoral degrees.
As a main research direction of General and Fundamental Mechanics, Nonlinear dynamics group studies all kinds of quantitative and qualitative states of movements in nonlinear dynamical systems. Nonlinear dynamics group also studies problems in nonlinear dynamics with respect to the engineering fields of vehicles, civil structures, and aeronautics and astronautics. Structural dynamics and control group studies practical engineering problems. This group studies nonlinear stochastic vibrations in typical structures, including key theories and analysis methods about dynamical characteristics of multi-degrees-of-freedom and continuous systems (in combination of new materials), stability, vibration responses, and optimal control. This group studies vibration suppressions, noise reduction, and vibration control of complex engineering structures in the modern vibration control lab and it builds strong experimental basis for basic theoretical research.
With rapid developments, General and Fundamental Mechanics has undertaken many state-level, large-scaled research projects, and has yielded fruitful results both in education and research. In the past 3 years, there were more than 100 publications in total, half of which are indexed by SCI/EI, 1 State Science and Technology Awards winner, 4 Province Science and Technology Awards winners, 1 National Outstanding Ph.D. thesis. We have many advanced scientific research equipments, especially the foundation of Stochastic Dynamics Laboratory. The Institute of Applied Mechanics bought a series of simulation softwares from ABAQUS、ANSYS and MSC.software.

The subject is founded with the support of the Institute of Applied Mechanics, and had its master program since 1978, and it offered the doctoral program since 1981. It was selected as the National Key Second Disciplines in 2007. We have 9 professors, 9 doctoral supervisors, 8 associate professors and senior engineers. Among these excellent teachers we have 2 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 National Scholar of Thousand-man Project，1 winner of National Natural Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. 90% of them have a doctoral degree.
Having experienced rapid developments, Solid Mechanics has undertaken many state-level, large-scaled research projects, and has yielded fruitful results both in education and research. There are more than 80 state-level research projects in total, of which more than 30 projects are from National Science Fundation of China, about 10 of them are key projects. In the past 3 years, there were more than 150 journal or conference papers which had been published in total, of which more than 100 are indexed by SCI/EI and authority journals. Supported by the 211 budget, we founded “High Performance Mechanics of Materials Laboratory”, bought nanoindentation. The Institute of Applied Mechanics bought a series of simulation softwares from ABAQUS、ANSYS and MSC.software.

The subject is founded with the support of the Institute of Applied Mechanics, and had graduate students since 1978 and had its master program since 1981. It offered the doctoral program since 2000. It was selected as the Provincial Key Second Disciplines in 2009. We have professors, 7 doctoral supervisors, 7 associate professors, among these excellent teachers, we have 2 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 National Scholar of Thousand-man Project，1 Changjiang Scholar. 80% of them have doctoral degrees. This subject has developed more than 100 masters and 5 doctors. Now we have 8 graduate students who are pursuing doctoral degrees.
Engineering Mechanics has many advantages. The first, we can offer interdisciplinary backgrounds, which offer necessary conditions for solving complex problems in mechanics. The second, we have all kinds of research facilities. Last, we have high scientific research capability. The Institute of Fluid Engineering provides both master and Ph.D. degree programs in "Fluid Mechanics". At present, there are 6 doctoral supervisors, 8 MA supervisors. The leading professor Jianzhong Lin is the Associate editor of International Journal of Multiphase Flow, the winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund and the Cross-century Talents Fund of the Education Ministry.
The institute has obtained 3 national awards and more than 20 provincial and ministry awards. Among them, "Research and application of internal flow of theory of centrifugal fans and computer aided design system" won the 1st National Scientific and Technological Advance Award. In the latest five years, the institute undertook more than 30 research projects covering multiphase fluid mechanics, industrial fluid mechanics, turbulent theory and experiment, computational fluid mechanics, modern fluid experimental measuring techniques, and micro-fluid mechanics. These projects were supported by the National Nature Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, other ministries and provinces.

Navigation, Guidance and Control discipline is one of the branches of the dominantdiscipline Control Science and Engineering of ZhejiangUniversity.With the excellent research facilities and environment supported both by the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Department of Control Science and Engineering, six faculty members with more than twenty graduate students of the Institute of Navigation, Guidance and Control are making their efforts on research of autonomous flying control of mini UAVs, and of control of flexible robots. There have been many important progresses on the works of nonlinear system modeling and control system design, Integrated Navigation System, vision based servo-control and embedded control system for mini unmanned helicopter, and which makes us in the leading status domestic.

Aerospace Information is one of the second level disciplines under the first level discipline Computer Science. The staffs involved in the Aerospace Information discipline mainly come from two research institutes of School of Aeronautics and Astronautics (SAA), Zhejiang University (ZJU), i.e. Institute of Aerospace Information Technology and Institute of Aerospace Electronic Engineering. Some staffs from other schools or departments of ZJU and other universities and institutes also work for the discipline. Presently the total number of researchers that work for the discipline is nearly/more than 20, which includes one academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one Cheung Kong Chair Professor, two professors, five associate professors and some postdoctors. More than 30 master students and more than 10 doctor students are pursuing the degrees.

MA programme of the Flight vehicle design of ZJU is one of second disciplines in the field of the Aeronautics & Astronautics science and technology. The faculty of the departments of the Aeronautics & Astronautics and mechanics engineering includes Cheung Kong chair Professor and Qiushi Professor.

MA programme of the Aerospace propulsion theory and engineering of ZJU is one of second disciplines in the field of the Aeronautics & Astronautics science and technology. The faculty of the departments of the Aeronautics & Astronautics and mechanics engineering includes Cheung Kong chair Professor and Qiushi Professor.
We carry researches on the topics, such as the combustion and propulsion technology, engine inner flow simulations and so on, and obtain a serial of results especially in the field of the combustion and propulsion. Combustion phenomena of the aerospace propulsion system are numerical simulated in parallel. The high pressure jet dynamics, oil vaporization and combustion phenomena in the engine of the liquid rocket are well studied. During the studies on the fuel cell, an accuracy and high efficient mixture area model has been proposed. A numerical simulation software is developed for the proton exchange membrane fuel cell, which is multi-dimensional, multi-phase, multi-physical and appropriate for large scale parallel calculations.
